Head vs Heart

There is a difference between the head and the heart.

At least that is what we are told by evangelicals. The head refers to one's intellect whereas the heart relates to one's center of emotions.

The difference between the two is not always clearly delineated; the concept of one's heart being particular vague.

The difference, however, is important.

Romans 10:9, for example, says that belief is essential for salvation. But the belief mentioned by the Apostle Paul is qualified as "in thine heart." That, we are told, differs from intellectual faith.

Head faith is insufficient. Heart faith is essential.

If we distinguish between 'head faith' and 'heart faith' in relation to Romans 10:9, we must also accept the difference in relation to Psalms 14:1. Here we read, "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God."

The fool is one who rejects a belief in God with his heart.

But those who reject God with their heads are no fools.
